Bruno Alves enjoying Zenit experience

Defender living “great moment”

Portugal international Bruno Alves says he is pleased with the way things have gone for him in Russia since making a big-money move from FC Porto to Zenit Saint Petersburg in August.

The 29-year-old left the Dragons in a €22m deal for a new adventure in Eastern Europe, joining Danny and Fernando Meira at Zenit. The Portuguese trio have since celebrated winning the Russian Premier League, with Zenit claiming their third championship after leading the table for most of the campaign.

For Alves, the achievement only adds to what has been a highly successful adaptation to a new life in Russia. “Becoming champion so soon after arriving is very good. It’s a fantastic feeling, I could not ask for more,” said the defender.

“My adaptation process was very easy. I have not had any problems, be it in professional or social terms. It was certainly a very significant change in my life, but everything has gone as best it could, especially after winning the title. I love the club; the city is fantastic; I’ve become champion - it’s a great moment in my career.

“This is what players are searching for during their careers - to win trophies, try new leagues, achieve new things, and experience different cultures. That’s what I was looking for what I accepted the offer from Zenit Saint-Petersburg and, in a short time, I have many reasons to be pleased with the decision I have made. After all, I am now a Russian champion, and that makes me extremely happy.”
