Makukula to make West Brom switch PDF Print E-mail

Benfica striker to join Premiership side

MakukulaBenfica’s Ariza Makukula is on his way to England to represent West Bromwich Albion for the rest of the season. The Portuguese international is due to fly out today where he will undergo a medical at The Hawthorns.

The move, which was announced on the Portuguese club’s official website, comes as no surprise as the player was linked with a move to the Premier League side earlier just last week.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the Baggies will be given an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the loan spell.

Makukula will be seen as bringing in some much needed offence as West Brom look to avoid the drop. The team currently posts the worst goal difference in the league at -20 and have also scored the least amount of goals in the Premiership with 17.

The former Sevilla player will also be looking forward to the change of scenery, in the hope of getting his career back on track, as the forward has yet to see a single minute of playing time since the arrival of Quique Flores.

Makukula becomes the second acquisition for the Baggies during the transfer window after the club negotiated the loan of Arsenal’s Jay Simpson.

The Benfica striker will not find it too difficult to adapt as he will encounter fellow countrymen Felipe Teixeira and Pele, as well as Liga alumni Marek Cech.
