Video: Almeida scores in Bremen draw

Werder Bremen 2-2 Stuttgart

Hugo Almeida staked his claims for a place in Portugal’s World Cup squad by scoring a stunning goal in Werder Bremen’s 2-2 draw with Stuttgart on Saturday afternoon.

The former Porto striker started the afternoon on the bench, but was called upon by Bremen manager Thomas Schaaf at the interval, with the hosts trailing 2-0 to first-half goals from Pavel Pogrebnyak and Sami Khedira.

Almeida got his side back into the match with fifteen minutes left to play, hammering home from outside the area with a trademark left-footed drive from a tight angle. Thorsten Frings equalised for Bremen five minutes later from the penalty spot after Marko Marin was brought down in the penalty area.

The result means Bremen stay in 6th place in the Bundesliga, three points off fifth-placed Borussia Dortmund in the final Europa League position with nine matches left to play.

Remember Almeida was hurt for a few matches this season...Makukala is in a weaker leage than the german league and most of his goals were easy tip ins if youve seen clips of most of his goals...Almeida was more power is stronger and I would keep him starting over Mak any day...Before his move to Turkey he played lousy..Happy hes doing great in the league...but really the Turkcell isn't the best of leagues.

i agree completely... almeida is weak notice the room he had to shoot. Watch makukulas recent goal. He made room for himself through his physical force!

Finally he reaches 5 goals... still can't believe he is a starting player for the NT. He shouldn't even be chosen.

19 goals in 21 games in the Turkish League is better than 5 goals in 16 games in the German League.

That's why Makukula is a better bet.
