Ricardo Costa enjoying Valencia experience

Defender shining in Spain

Ricardo Costa’s adaptation to life with Spanish club Valencia could hardly have been smoother, with the Portugal defender the most used player by Los Ches in La Liga so far this season.

Costa arrived at the Mestalla in the summer, having spent a brief spell in France with Lille following his departure from Germany’s Wolfsburg in January. So far, Costa has started 16 of his team’s 18 matches in the league, and his total playing time of 1521 minutes means he is the most used player in the squad by some distance, with Aduriz next in the list with over 200 mins fewer.

“The first half of the season went well for me,” the former Porto man told the Spanish press on Friday. “I am the most used player in the squad. I think that shows that people trust in my quality, in my capabilities. I know what I can give to the team: my professionalism; my experience; my commitment.

“People have enjoyed having me here and this is crucial in the relationship between club and player. I’m fine at Valencia; the club gives 5-star treatment. I have a good contract and the people trust me. My family loves the city and I know that coming here was the right decision.”

I'm not surprised. He was so good for Wolfsburg for several seasons. I'm glad to see his continued success.
