Ricardo Costa on verge of completing Valencia move

Defender destined for Spain

Portuguese defender Ricardo Costa is due to finalise his move to Valencia over the weekend, according to reports. The player is expected in Spain over the next 48 hours, and will sign for Los Ches on Monday provided there are no problems.

Costa is currently with French outfit Lille, having joined from Wolfsburg on a short-term deal in January. The former Porto stopper was allowed to rescind his contract with the Bundesliga side during the last transfer window, and signed a five-month contract at Lille with a view to assessing his options in full this summer.

Valencia have long been suspected to be Costa’s most likely destination ahead of next season. The player himself hinted back in February that a switch to the Mestalla was on the cards, and now Maisfutebol claims that Costa will undergo medical examinations in Spain on Friday and Saturday.

Should the 28-year-old come through the formalities, he will put pen to paper with Valencia on Monday. Costa will become the third Portuguese on the club’s squad list, with internationals Miguel and Manuel Fernandes already at the club.
