Paulo Machado: “It’s always a pleasure to return to Portugal”

Toulouse midfielder does not close door on summer transfer

Paulo Machado was in action aPaulo Machadot the Estadio da Luz yesterday. Speaking to PortuGOAL after Toulouse’s 1-0 defeat to Benfica, the former FC Porto player said he was happy to be back in Portugal and admitted a move this transfer window was a possibility.

Despite the loss, Machado says it was a good work-out for his team: “It was good. It’s always a pleasure to return to Portugal, to play against a team like Benfica. Our team was in good form but they won it at the end and I wish Benfica good luck.”

The 25-year-old has worked his way into the national team set up and is looking to have a positive season in order to be selected for the Euro 2012 tournament, albeit not necessarily at his present club.

“My objective is to help my club in the Europa League. We are playing well as a team and we want to do something in the French championship. I want to continue working hard as I’ve done up to now so I continue to have the confidence of Paulo Bento.

“I’ve got a contract until 2015, but who knows what will happen. The transfer window only closes on 31 August. Let’s see what happens.”

It's always good to hear from Portuguese players abroad.
I saw that he came up on Portos youth squads, but was mostly out on loan before going to France.
I wish him the best.
