Paulo Machado extends Toulouse deal

Midfielder seals two-year extension

In-form Portuguese midfielder Paulo Machado has signed a new contract with French Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse, tying himself to the club until June 2015.

The former Porto man moved to the Stadium Municipal last summer on a four-year contract from the Dragons. Machado enjoyed an impressive debut campaign with Toulouse, making 32 appearances and scoring five goals last term, and his form has continued into the new French season.

Machado was at the heart of the action on Saturday as his team beat Sochaux 3-1, with the Portuguese assisting all three goals from set-piece deliveries. The 24-year-old has been his team’s most used player so far this season, and earned a call-up to Paulo Bento’s Portugal squad last month.

The French league is better in terms of quality than the Portuguese league. Porto, Benfica, Sporting, and Braga would all do well in the french league, but the midtable and relegation teams in France are much better than the midtable and relegation teams in Portugal. Smaller teams in France like Toulouse are much better than the small teams like Rio Ave or Naval.

The fact that Toulouse is 5th is pointing out that France doesnt have a more competative league than us this year, if their top teams were on form Toulouse should be just above relegation as they have been over the last few years.

He hasnt experienced the europa or champions league yet. Beating a 3rd last team in France is all well and good. Versing Spain and Germany in an international clash is another and if we use him against them he will be a liability atm, simple as that.
Crowded Midfield

He's good. Really good. But so are Meireles, Moutinho, Micael, Veloso..it's starting to get crowded in there. Why couldn't he have been a striker damnit

Watched my first ever Ligue 1 match this weekend and Machado was fantastic! Looking forward to seeing more of him for Portugal
I like this player

I watched Machado play in one game, maybe a month ago. High energy for full 90 minutes and seems a clever player, keeped passes simple and had a very direct style. Reminds me of Pavel Nedved. Maybe lacking a bit in composure made a few hurried decision, there were a couple of long distance attempts at goal that where definately not on. Still for me definately worthy of being in the Portugal squad, maybe he can take Simao's spot.
Disagree with Josh/Australia

He's playing in a much more competitive league than Portugal's and ever since he's been in Ligue 1 he has been playing well. I've been mentioning this guy's name for sometime and he's always a star in the midfield. Plus, Toulouse is 5th place in France so far why do you want him to move?

Not enough yet

Still not good enough to make the NT yet, needs to move to a bigger club to prove himself in my eyes.

If he keeps it up though hopefully someone will pick him up.
