Semedo rescinds with Steaua

Mutual termination agreed between parties

Portuguese forward Antonio Semedo is a free agent after Romanian club Steaua announced that they have agreed to release the player after just one year in Bucharest.

Semedo, 30, arrived in the capital last summer in a 1m-euro deal from CFR Cluj, whom he had helped to the Romanian championship. However, Steaua had a disastrous 2008/09 campaign, and Semedo registered just three goals in his 30 appearances in league and European competition over the course of the season.

In a press release on their official site, Steaua stated that they “thank the player for contributing to the team and wish him all success in the future”. Semedo joins Tiago Gomes in leaving the club, after Steaua opted against making the 23-year-old’s loan move from Estrela permanent.
