Machado delight at finally sealing Toulouse move

Four-year deal for Portuguese

machadoPaulo Machado’s long-awaited move to French Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse was finally completed on Thursday, with the former Porto midfielder presented as the club’s latest recruit.

Despite Toulouse agreeing a deal with Porto for the 23-year-old some weeks ago, the move was held up by Saint-Etienne, who had Machado on-loan last season and insisted that he was contractually obliged to sign for them on a permanent basis.

However, the clubs came to an agreement earlier this week and Machado has now signed a four-year contract with Toulouse, who finished in 6th place in the French top flight last season. “I spent my holidays concerned because of all the problems, but I am happy to have signed for Toulouse,” Machado revealed on his presentation.

“The first contact occurred at the end of last season. Toulouse made me an offer and I quickly said yes after talking it through with my father. The president and the coach contacted me every day and made me feel wanted at the club. I am going to play in the Europa League, which is great. It was the best option for me.”

Machado becomes the second notable Portuguese in Toulouse’s history, following in the footsteps of legendary former Sporting midfielder Oceano, who ended his career with one season at the Stadium Municipal in 1998/99.
