Saint-Etienne reiterate Paul Machado stance

Les Verts insistent on Portuguese

machadoConfusion continues to surround the immediate future of FC Porto midfielder Paulo Machado, with Saint-Etienne insisting that the player is not free to negotiate with Ligue 1 rivals Toulouse.

The 23-year-old, who was on-loan with Saint-Etienne last season, was reported to be in Toulouse on Wednesday to iron out the final details of a 3.5m Euro move from his parent club, Porto, to the Stadium Municipal.

However, St Etienne general manager Damien Comolli has once again stated that Machado has no obligation to move elsewhere without the club’s authorisation. “It is not our intention to transfer the midfielder,” Comolli said. “If it were, we would have negotiated it weeks ago. After a match with Olympiakos, two Greek clubs contacted us about him but we did not respond.”

For their part, Toulouse have already admitted they do not know the details of Machado’s legal ties with Les Verts, and have made it clear that the player must completely resolve his issues with his current club before moving to the south-west.
