Conceicao achieves historic win in Romania

Filipe Teixeira scores as Brasov beat Steaua in Bucharest

Filipe TeixeiraPortuguese coach Antonio Conceicao led his Brasov side to a 3-0 triumph against Romanian powerhouse Steaua Bucharest in the capital this weekend. Portuguese midfielder Filipe Teixeira (pictured) was on the scoresheet.

“Brasov hadn’t beaten Steaua in Bucharest for 42 years, so it’s a fantastic result,” said the former Estrela da Amadora coach.

“The strategy we worked on during the week came off, because our players put what we asked into practice. Our first-half display was fantastic. In the second half the pitch got heavier because of the snow, but we withstood the pressure and got the win,” Conceicao told his official site Antonioconceicao.com.

Romania has been a happy hunting ground for Portuguese coaches and players alike in recent years, and the coach was able to call on the services of Filipe Teixeira – bought in the winter transfer window – and Nuno Viveiros.

“Filipe Teixeira started and scored a great goal. He played very well and was a reference point of the team, although he tired towards the end,” added Conceicao.

Brasov will meet Steaua again in the semi-finals of the Romanian Cup, but for now Conceicao says the team’s focus must be the league. “The game was a good indicator for the Cup, but the priority now is the Romanian league. We want to move away from the danger zone quickly.”
