Liga 1 round-up

The visitors had taken the lead midway through the first half thanks to a goal from another Portuguese, Diogo Ramos, but Cluj hit back to lead heading into stoppage time at the end of the match.

Defender Tony and midfielder Dani started for Cluj, who are now managed by Portuguese boss Toni. The result means Cluj sit in fourth place in the table, two positions and three points away from qualification for next season’s Champions League.

Last season’s runners-up Steaua Bucharest were also denied by a Portuguese, as Chico Fernandes snatched a point for Farul Constanta in a 1-1 draw in the capital. Antonio Semedo was in the Steaua starting line-up, but his side were pegged back by Chico’s equaliser on 72 minutes.

A Portuguese was also on-target for Rapid Bucharest in their match with Unirea Urziceni, but the home side were left frustrated by a 1-1 draw. Joao Paulo Andrade gave the hosts the lead on 22 minutes, while Ricardo Fernandes and Joao Paulo Pinto were also in the Rapid starting line-up, and Bruno Fernandes played for Unirea.

League leaders Dinamo Bucharest recovered from their midweek defeat to get back to winning ways with a 4-1 win over FC Vaslui on Saturday. Bruno Simao started in the Dinamo defence, as a hat-trick from former Sporting striker Marius Niculae helped the club from the capital open up a three-point lead at the top of the Liga 1.

Elsewhere this weekend, Paulo Adriano started and Rui Duarte came off the bench in the second half for FC Brasov in their 4-0 victory over bottom-placed Gloria Buzau, who had Diogo Silva in defence.
