Joao Tomas out for a month

Striker underwent appendectomy

joaotomas.jpgRio Ave suffered a blow as they will be without the services of their star striker Joao Tomas as the former Portuguese international will sit out the next month recovering from an appendectomy.

Tomas' career has experienced a bit of a resurgence since joining the vila-condense side this season, scoring eight goals in 18 appearances. But the 34-year-old's scoring exploits will take a back seat as he will be forced to nurse himself back to full fitness.

All is not lost for Rio Ave as the club quickly moved to find adequate replacements as they announced the signings of Bruno Moraes and Nelson Oliveira.

Moraes is on loan from FC Porto and will remain with Rio Ave until the end of the current campaign. The same agreement has been established for the 18-year-old Benfica youth product.
