Former Portugal international pens 3-year deal

BetoPortuguese defender Roberto Beto has officially completed his permanent move from French side Bordeaux to La Liga outfit Recreativo Huelva, signing a three-year deal.

The former Sporting man spent last season on loan at the Nuevo Colombino, and was one of the key members of the team that surprised everyone by finishing 8th during their first season back in the top flight.

“I would like to thank Recre for the effort they have made so that I would be here for three seasons,” the former Portuguese international said after signing the contract and being presented to the media on Tuesday.

“I hope that next season brings the supporters as much enjoyment as the last one.”

The 31-year-old, who has represented Portugal 31 times, made 25 league appearances for Recre last season, scoring two goals, and received warm praise from president Francisco Mendoza after agreeing to stay with the club.

“Beto is a great professional, who has fulfilled all the expectations,” said Mendoza. “Recreativo is proud to have a player of his class in our squad. It was important to make the effort to get him here.”

Beto’s deal includes a 9m euro buyout clause, and ties him to the Andalucian club until 2010.
