Unpaid Ze Antonio reports Racing Santander

Defender seeking resolution

Portuguese defender Ze Antonio has been forced to take action with regard to his current situation at Racing Santander, having reported the club to the league based on several months of salary arrears.

The 32-year-old defender, who signed a two-year deal at El Sardinero last summer, has not been paid for the months of July, August and September, according to a report in Maisfutebol. As a result, Ze Antonio has referred the situation to the official league body through the player’s union, taking the common route of action in Spain.

The club and player are now in talks to come to a resolution to the dispute. The former Academica defender was courted by several clubs during the close season, but Racing manager Juan Carlos Mandia curiously blocked the departure of a player who has barely been used since arriving in La Liga.

The mutual termination of Ze Antonio’s contract with the club has not yet been discussed, according to Maisfutebol, but given the player’s situation both on and off the field, it could prove the most appealing solution for all parties concerned.
