Video: Moreira bags winner in Belgrade derby

Red Star 0-1 Partizan

Almani Moreira’s cult hero status among the fans of Serbian champions Partizan will only have increased after the Portuguese playmaker scored the only goal of the game in the fiercely contested Belgrade derby against Red Star.

Moreira’s 6th-minute strike proved enough to earn Partizan all three points at the Stadion Crvena Zvezda, earning the visitors their fourth consecutive league victory over their arch rivals. Moreira was free to convert with the goal gaping after Brazilian Cleo had done well to rob Red Star defender Slavoljub Dordevic on the left flank.

The derby match between the country’s two biggest clubs was given added spice by the inclusion in the visiting Partizan side of goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic. The former Sporting man was whistled throughout by the home fans, who were angered by his decision to sign for their enemies this summer, having come through the youth ranks at Red Star.

The victory for Partizan sees them go top of the Serbian SuperLiga on goal difference from Red Star, with both teams on 22 points from nine matches played. Partizan, who host Braga in the Champions League next month, are aiming for a fourth consecutive championship, having ended the last campaign unbeaten.

This is unlikely to happen when they play Braga
