Belgrade derby win pleases Partizan’s Moreira

FK Partizan 2-0 Red Star

MoreiraPartizan are almost certain to retain their Serbian league title, after beating arch rivals Red Star 2-0 on Wednesday to move thirteen points clear at the top of the Super Liga.

A goal in either half from Lamine Diarra (12’) and substitute Nikola Vujovic (81’) gave the champions all three points at the Stadion Partizana, and with second-place Vojvodina held to a draw by Cukaricki, allowed them to increase their advantage at the head of the table.

Club vice-captain Almani Moreira, who scored a last-gasp equaliser in the 1-1 Belgrade derby between the sides in February, played the full ninety minutes for Partizan, and was pleased with both the result and the performance by his side.

“I’m very satisfied, more than satisfied because last time we played at home against Red Star it wasn’t great,” he said. “If you want to be champions you can’t play like that, but today we played great from zero to 90 minutes. We attacked the whole ninety minutes. This is the way we can play and the way we should play.

“(Red Star) must be happy at losing just 2-0. I alone missed three opportunities, which I cannot waste in the future. But I’m happy, we got the three points and we had not won at home against Red Star in seven years. I didn’t score, I’m sorry for that but I will next time.”
