Nelson signs for Osasuna: Next target - Seleccao!

Right-back pleased with move

Portugal international Nelson finalised his loan move from Real Betis to Osasuna on Tuesday, and quickly declared his intention to use the platform in La Liga to force his way back into the international picture.

Nelson spent last season in the Spanish second tier with Real Betis, a year that the former Benfica man recently described as the worst of his professional career. Having expressed a desire to return to top-flight football before the deadline, Nelson beat the closure of the transfer window to sign a one-year loan deal with Jose Antonio Camacho’s Osasuna.

“I have come to a big club. This year I set two goals: first to return to the Spanish First Division and then to return to the Portugal squad", said the 27-year-old. "I did everything I could to come here and all parties involved made an effort.

“I want to return to playing at the highest level and prove I am a good footballer. I’m young, I want to succeed and Osasuna gives me that opportunity. I know the coach (Camacho) already and I hope to match his expectations of me. It will be a big job but I consider myself a top level player.”

If selected, Nelson will make his debut for the Pamplona club at the Santiago Bernabeu against Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid after the international break.
