Portugal international Nelson headed to Osasuna

Pamplona switch for defender

Spanish La Liga club Osasuna have reached an agreement with Real Betis to take Portugal right-back Nelson on a season-long deal with the option of a permanent transfer.

The former Benfica man, 27, had recently spoken of his frustration at playing in the Spanish second tier with Betis, who failed to achieve promotion last season having been relegated from the top flight during Nelson’s debut campaign in Spain in 2008/09.

According to reports in Spain, a deal has been struck that will see Osasuna take Nelson on loan for the remainder of the season, with an option to purchase the player in full for 6m euros next summer.

Nelson is expected to be presented by his new club on Tuesday, and could make his debut against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu after the international break. Current Osasuna coach Jose Antonio Camacho worked with Nelson when the pair were at Benfica during the 2007/08 season.

Luckily he is on loan, will likely be a waste there too. Hopefully he can get some of his form back and possibly become useful to the NT at right fullback position.
