Nacional are still confident - Lopes

Defender still postive after team's poor form

felipelopes.jpgNacional appear to have hit the skids as the team have not won a match in any competition since their victory against Academica in early December. But Felipe Lopes believes the squad is still brimming with confidence despite the lack of results.

The Alvinegros are coming off a loss to Sporting and are on the verge of falling out of a European berth for next season. The Brazilian defender admits that the team have committed some memtal errors recently, but reiterates that there is still a lot of time left in the season to turn things around.

"I believe that we have played well, our level of offence have created opportunities and we have scored goals, but unfortunately we have also suffered goals which, in retrospect, we could have avoided," said Lopes. "I think this is where we have to improve, as it is here that we are faltering."

Nacional will host Pacos de Ferreira in the Portuguese Cup this week. Despite expecting a motivated Mata Real side, the 22-year-old feels that the Maderia outfit are more than capable of coming away with a win.

"We know to take it game by game and, just like us, they (Pacos) will play to win. We will forget what has happened and step onto the field thinking about this match only and focusing on doing well, and what we have to do in order to get a victory."

"The last set of results have not left the team shaken. The group have not dropped their heads."
