Video: Superb Makukula off and running again in Turkey

Trabzonspor 1-3 Manisaspor

Ariza Makukula opened his account for the 2010/11 Turkish Super Lig season with a brace as his new club Manisaspor came from behind to win 3-1 at Trabzonspor.

Having spent last season on loan from Benfica to fellow Turkish outfit Kayserispor, Makukula signed a three-year contract with Manisaspor in August for an undisclosed fee. The Congolese born striker made his debut for his new team last week in their 2-1 home defeat to Antalyaspor.

Searching for their first points of the new season, things got off to a bad start for Manisaspor in Trabzon when Selcuk Inan put the hosts ahead on 9 minutes with a well placed shot from inside the area. Makukula levelled four minutes before the break, nodding in from close range, and Josh Simpson turned in a cross from the left to have the visitors in front at half time.

The best was yet to come, as Makukula got his second midway through the second half with a sensational long-range strike. Receiving the ball over twenty-five metres from goal, the Portuguese international moved forward and shifted onto his right foot before unleashing an unstoppable drive that flew into the top corner.

Makukula is where he should be, but I prefer Kayserispor over Manisaspor. He was an idol, fan favorite, everything at Kayserispor, but they could not sum up at least €2 million to retain their top scorer, whereas a team much weaker than them in the league could. I believe he will have a successful season again or even better than last year because he is staying permanently now. He doesn't have to think about whether to go back to Benfica, thinking about forcing a starting role against the likes of Cardozo and Saviola. Also, there is no fuss for him this year whether he will get a call-up into the NT. With all of these out of the way, he can concentrate fully on his new team and try to score as much as he can.

Makukula in my opinion is not an excellent striker, but I do think that he deserves a call up. There are almost no good portuguese strikers in the prime. Almeida and Makukula are the only decent strikers we have in their prime. Liedson is too old and Helder Postiga is way too inconsistent. We do have some young strikers who have potential, but none have done anything to deserve a call up to the seleccao.
I feel that Nelson Oliveira is our best young striker so hopefully he can get a lot of playing time for Pacos Ferreira and force his way into Benfica.
sweet second goal!!!

Benfica should have sold cardozo and kept ramires. They would have makukula who is clearly better than Cardozo. Cardozo in a weaker team would not score goals the way Makukula does. Horrible decision by Jorge Jesus to sell Ramires but keep Cardozo.
ole ole ole makukulaa ole

You can tell he wants to prove himself to the National Team. He's been discriminated against because he plays for a small team but he plays with passion. Give him his shot!
