Nunes welcomes Bruno China to Mallorca

Defender revels in La Liga opportunity

Mallorca vice-captain Jose Nunes has welcomed the arrival of Bruno China, after the former Leixoes man was presented as the Islanders’ first summer recruit.

China signed a three-year deal at the ONO Estadi and was officially presented to the media earlier this week. “It is a major step to move to Spain and an opportunity I could not pass up,” he told the press. “Jose (Nunes) spoke with me and gave great references about the club. I am very happy to have this chance and I intend to give my all. It is a good club with a lot of tradition because it has been in the First Division for many years.”

For Nunes, who has been with Mallorca for three-and-a-half years since a January 2006 switch from Braga, it is another addition to the Barralets’ backline, and one he welcomes as the club prepare for Sunday’s La Liga opener at home to newly-promoted Xerez.

“He’s Portuguese, so he’s a good person,” joked the 32-year-old. “He’s a good guy, and the club decided on him because they recognised the quality he has to help the team. He has changed country and league, so he will need time to adapt. We have to make the adaptation as quick as possible so he can make the most of this opportunity.”
