Video: Eliseu lifts Malaga out of trouble

Malaga 1-0 Levante

La Liga strugglers Malaga followed up their midweek Copa del Rey victory with a much-needed three points against Levante on Sunday. A stunning second-half goal from Portugal international Eliseu proved enough to secure victory and lift the Andalucian club out of the relegation zone.

New Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini, who took over from sacked Jesualdo Ferreira earlier this month, selected Eliseu in his line-up for what was a crucial match with fellow survival hopefuls Levante. Both Edinho and Duda, recently recovered from injury, took places on the substitutes bench.

The match was decided by a moment of brilliance from ex-Belenenses man Eliseu, who beat Levante goalkeeper Manolo Reina with a fantastic low shot with his left foot just under twenty minutes into the second half. The win means Malaga move out of the bottom three and up to 16th place in the standings.

Duda was not called from the sidelines, but Edinho did come on for the second half. Both Eliseu and Edinho had got their names on the score sheet during the midweek Copa victory over Hercules, and have both impressed new coach Pellegrini in the earlier stages of his tenure at La Rosaleda.
