Meireles sends Liverpool on the way to victory

Liverpool 2-0 Stoke City

Raul Meireles scored for the third time in four matches to help Liverpool secure their third consecutive Premier League victory with a win over Stoke City at Anfield.

Meireles scored the opener less than two minutes into the second half to break the deadlock for the hosts, after a goalless first period. A good night for the Merseyside club was rounded off when substitute Luis Suarez came off the bench to score on his debut to seal the three points.

Ex-Porto midfielder Meireles opened his goalscoring account for The Reds against city rivals Everton last month, and followed that up with a sensational strike in the following match at Wolves.

joao pinto a great player and midfielder???? LOL!!!!!!!!!! He was a second striker/forward. Obviously your portuguese football knowledge is nonexistent. Chalana, P Sousa, Future(also a second striker/forward), Sérgio Conceição, Mário Coluna António Simões. Funny how you always comment about others knowledge yet you have no clue. You have been exposed for the fraud you are.
Has Been Great

I was never a big fan of Meireles, but he has proved me wrong. He was great in the World Cup as a box to box midfielder. More importantly he's a smart player that knows when to stay or track back, instead of moving forward. A trait that Fernandes has yet to learn.

I watch a lot EPL matches, and the one thing you can't dispute is his husttle. Meireles just doesn't stop. Let me also add that his passing has been erratic at times. I know that Torres got a lot of grief for not hustling, but some of the deliveries were just awful. And yes some came from Meireles.

What is going to be very curious is how Dalglish will continue to use Meireles with Gerard back from suspension. Verse Stoke they went with a makeshift lineup where Kuyt and Meireles were the listed forwards. Meireles sat right behind Kuyt, which used to be Gerards spot. But during the match it was mostly Gerard that stood in that spot with Meireles settling behind him. That is most likely what to expect, especially since Meireles can track back better.

Meireles has been a great signing for Liverpool, just for his energy alone. I know that Kuyt brought some of that, but more was needed. I also think that Suarez will settle in nicely for them, as should Carrol. What will be interesting to see is the formation. Especially with a weak backline.
more advanced role

At the start of the season Hodgson was playing him all over the place, defensive midfield and even on the right wing on one occasion.

Now he is playing in an attacking midfield role, and it is suiting his game perfectly.

This man can be the long-term replacement for Deco in the seleccao, if people give him the chance.
thank you sooo much its such a relief to know that

No Longer R.MERDAeles

I'll admit I was a Meireles hater and created the nickname Raul "Merdaeles" for him, but since the World Cup his been growing on me. I've grown to appreciate his game and will no longer call him another average player. His just one of those midfielders who does all the dirty work in games that goes unnoticed. I've grown to respect his versatility and the skill he brings at tackling, passing, and even shooting, although sometimes his shots look like his playing American football instead of real football lol. But hey its better to shoot on occasion and sometimes score then not at all.
best transfer

he has been by far the most valuable transfered player to his new team out of all the summer transfers this year.

He's been one of the few good items out of Liverpool this year. I think now that Torres is gone and they got some fresh players, Liverpool has a real shot at qualifying for Europa.

As for the trash talking on Meireles, you see that all the time for our league. He was a Porto player and therefore you found people hating on him. You've seen the same type of dumb comments for Martins or Simao from Benfica. You have people that can't look past the clubs and see what's good for the national team. I wish Meireles luck and I think every part of our national team looks amazing.

I also saw people criticizing Tom Kundert on here when he wrote good reports about Mereiles play for Portugal. He is our best midfield player in my opinon.

I seem to remember not so long ago, everyone on this site claiming that he was nothing more than a mediocre CM that didn't even deserve to play for the seleção. He was great during WC qualifying, great at the WC, has been great during Euro qualifying and now is performing in one of the best leagues in the world. Great to see him finally getting some recognition.
did good!
