Shoulder operation likely to end Antunes’ season

Surgery for Portuguese international

antunesVitorino Antunes’ troublesome time in Italy continues after the Lecce left-back underwent a shoulder operation, which is likely to keep him out for the remainder of the season.

The three-time Portuguese international, who is on-loan at the Stadio Via del Mare from fellow Serie A side Roma, has made just ten league appearances this season, with his time on the pitch limited to a mere 689 minutes.

Antunes arrived in Rome from Pacos Ferreira at the start of the 2007/08 season, but struggled to make much of an impression in the capital, making only five league appearances for the Giallorossi over the course of the campaign.

He was farmed out to Lecce last summer and made a decent early impression in Apulia, although playing time had been reduced in recent weeks ahead of the injury to his left shoulder, which almost certainly ends the 22-year-old’s season early.
