Video: Makukula fires Kayserispor to victory

Kayserispor 1-0 Trabzonspor

Ariza Makukula was back on the goal trail last night, scoring a last-minute winner for Kayserispor against Trabzonspor to move his side up to 6th place in the Turkell Super Lig.

The on-loan Benfica man was in the right place at the right time to fire home after Trabzonspor goalkeeper had parried substitute Omer Sismanoglu’s centre. The goal came as the clock struck ninety minutes, and the resulting victory brought an end to Kayserispor’s four-match winless run.

Makukula’s men now occupy 6th place in the table, but Kayserispor are seven points off the top four positions, which offer the reward of continental football for next season. For the Portuguese striker, it was his 18th goal of the season, putting him seven ahead of his nearest rival at the top of the goalscoring charts.

Quieroz's decision

It will all come down to what kind of formation Quieroz wants to play in South Africa. We saw against China an offensive front consisting of Almeida as the lone striker, with Ronaldo, Simao AND Nani all on the field with him. If that is what Quieroz wants then I seriously doubt that Makukula will get called up.

We all know for certain that Liedson and Almeida will be there and while I personally think it would be in our best interest to have someone like Makukula as our 3rd striker, it will simply depend on the formation I think.

Also, he certainly is in great form and that's not debatable since being the top goalscorer in any league is impressive even if it's in Turkey, however, he has not had any playing time with the Seleccao in a long time. I really think that may hurt his chances too. In the end, I would certainly feel hard done by if I were him and missed out on the world cup.

He is doing everything right by scoring as many goals as he can. I think his size and physicality would make him tough to handle and Portugal need that kind of player in my opinion.
Nuno Gomes LOL!

Nuno Gomes is not going to South Africa regardless his day is done. I don't know why people still bring up his name, listen I respect the guy for what he has done for Benfica & Portugal but it's just stupid to bring up his name for the NT. Nuno is just slower these days and he isn't even getting minutes with Benfica either. It's Makukula's time not Nuno's!
Sorry Nuno?

You guys beg a chance for Makukula and the NT. Nuno Gomes is not even playing club football. Atleast Makukula is. Nuno Gomes has no chance. Unfair.

This guy should be called up, this was the major problem during the WC 2010 qualifying... SCORING... Give him a chance, he is a big target in the area, strong presence. With all the injuries we have... give BIG MAK a chance !!
good run of games

Makakula has been having a good run of games. Also, he hasn't had european club football, so he is less likely to get to the tournament tired.

You can't ignore him anymore. I didn't really want to see him on the team. But at this point, I think it is Liedson, Almeida, and Makukula for the forwards. Sorry N. Gomes.
I agree with Lex

Makukula is a better option over Nuno and Hugo. At the very least he should be on the bench as an option. I think they could even run a similar formation to Benfica with two strikers, they have a very similar body type - Makukula (Cadrozo) & Liedson (Saviola) with Ronaldo & Simao feeding them the ball.

I do think its a bit late for any major changes like this before the tournament but I still think they should have Makukula as a back up.

Why the hell isn't this guy on the national team? Sure, he's not as talented as liedson but he's clearly RELIABLE. Remember his first goal on the NT. It came at a crucial time.
