Tiago not for sale - Juventus

Portuguese to stay put

Juventus sporting director Alessio Secco has insisted that Portugal international Tiago Mendes is not for sale, despite rumours that the former Benfica man had been made available for transfer.

Tiago endured a torrid first season in Italy during the 2007/08 season, but after Juve failed to offload him last summer, the 27-year-old’s form improved last term and he became a regular in Claudio Ranieri’s side. Now, with new manager Ciro Ferrara taking the reigns, it appears Tiago is a part of the incoming boss’ long-term plans for the Bianconeri.

“We’ve had a number of offers for him, but he is not for sale,” the Juve official revealed on Monday. “He’s not going anywhere because we are counting on him for the new season. Coach Ciro Ferrara sees him as an important figure in a three-man midfield.”

Tiago’s place had thought to be under threat after the arrivals of Brazilian midfielders Felipe Melo, from Fiorentina, and ex-Porto man Diego, who arrived from German club Werder Bremen.
