Tiago Gomes: “The key to survival is our home results”

Portuguese midfielder fights to help Hercules beat drop

Tiago GomesHe plays in one of the best leagues in the world, he’s Portuguese and he’s one of the most influential players for his team, Hercules. Tiago Gomes admits that obtaining good results in the remaining games at home are the key to ensuring Hercules remain in La Liga.

“We have a massive week. On Saturday we welcome Racing, and then on Wednesday we will be visited by Mallorca. Hence, the key to survival is what we do at home. It’s important to earn six points in these two games and not let our opponents beat us. Afterwards, we also want to pick up points in Madrid in the clash against Atletico,” Gomes told Desportimedia.

The 25-year-old former Estrela da Amadora and Steaua Bucharest player said he and his team-mates had got the defeat against Malaga last week out of their system. “We’ve forgotten the loss against Malaga. Up to when we had a player sent off we were doing well. It was 1-1 at that stage, against fellow relegation candidates. But Malaga took advantage of the extra man and scored two goals.”

The midfielder put in another good individual performance, playing in a slightly different position to normal. “In the game the coach gave me a more defensive mission. I felt good and set up a few counter-attacks,” he said.

Salvador should keep an eye on this guy and Ze Castro. I believe Ze Castro is a free agent this summer. Hes the perfect replacement for Rodriguez and Braga should do everything to seal the Kaka deal.
