Genoa’s Veloso set for Juventus switch?

Swap deal mooted

Portuguese international Miguel Veloso is being lined up for a January move from Genoa to Juventus, according to reports in Italy.

Veloso only moved to Genoa from Sporting in August in a €9m deal that also saw Alberto Zapater head to Lisbon. Since arriving in Serie A, Veloso has started five of Genoa’s six league matches as the team sit in 10th place in the table with two wins, two draws and two defeats so far.

However, newspaper TuttoSport claims Veloso’s stay at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris could be cut short, as Genoa and Juventus have been in talks over a swap deal to take place in the January transfer window. According to the report, Bianconeri midfielder Mohamed Sissoko would move in the opposite direction, should Veloso head to Turin.

The deal is thought to have been agreed as long ago as last month, with Juventus keen to finally secure the signature of a player they have been following for over two years.

Juventus has not been a happy place for Portuguese players in recent seasons. Jorge Andrade suffered injury problems that have effectively ended his career shortly after arriving in Turin, while Tiago endured a miserable experience with the Bianconeri and defender Goncalo Brandao tore his Achilles tendon while on trial at the club in May.

Sissoko has already agreed to join Wolfsburg as part of the deal to take Dzeko to Juve, I thought.
