Video: Pele fights off team-mate to score winner for Eskisehirspor

Eskisehirspor 2-1 Sivasspor

Former Porto midfielder Vitor Pele scored an 89th-minute winner for Eskisehirspor to give his side victory over Sivasspor in the Turkish Super Lig last night.

The score had been level at 1-1 since the 18-minute mark when Eskisehirspor defender Diego Angelo put through his own net to cancel out Serdar Ozbayraktar’s opener. Pele, who has struggled for a starting position in recent weeks, was called from the bench on the hour as his side looked for a winning goal.

It arrived with one minute of normal time left to play, and it was preceded by a controversial argument between team-mates over the taking of a free-kick. Pele resisted strong pressure from Sezer Ozturk to take the set-piece, and the Portuguese midfielder vindicated his confidence by converting with the help of the inside of the post.

The win temporarily moves Eskisehirspor up to 7th place in the table, seven points adrift of the top four and a European place.

Sezer Ozturk

Pele had it in him to score that goal but the main player on this team is Sezer Ozturk. This is his team, the captain is old over the hill good for nothing, former Galatasaray player umit karan. You cannot even compare the skill Sezer Ozturk has to that of Pele. Pele struggles with consistency, he will have this one goal but then next 5 weeks do nothing to help the team which is why he sees himself on the bench a lot of times.Sezer was wrong that day but as far as skills go Sezer Ozturk is on another level.

Another Wasted Portuguese Talent

Just another example of the generation of U-20 & U-21 players from the last few years who gave promise and delivered very little. Portugal national team will pay for this wasted and unproductive generation in a few years unless there is a wave of new young players in the next few years.

Very few good young Portuguese players are playing at top flight clubs today.

This guy looks fat and could become the new Miguel if he does not turn it around. Let's hope this Pele can make something out of what is left of his career.

He should have played basketball, look at his skills hiding the ball from Ozturk between 05 - 15 seconds. Amazing!

Where the hell was the captain! Very unprofessional by both players. Great strike though. He shouldn't be sitting the bench. He needs to get in better shape and back to Portugal. It seems another sad case of talented Portguese youth going to waste.
What happened to Pele?

I remember seeing this guy play in Toronto for the Under 20 tournament. He was a solid defensive midfielder...he ends up on Inter, and then POOF disappears.

This is absolutely classical. Sad though, I had such high hopes for this kid when he was included in the Quaresma deal.
