Video: Pele opens Turkey account in Eskisehirspor defeat

Konyaspor 2-1 Eskisehirspor

Portuguese midfielder Vitor Pele scored his first goal in the Turckell Super Lig on Friday night, but it was not enough to prevent Eskisehirspor from suffering their opening defeat of the season.

The 22-year-old joined Eskisehirspor in a €1m deal from Porto during the summer, having spent the previous 18 months on loan with English club Portsmouth and Valladolid in Spain, and the midfielder made his debut during last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Genclerbirligi.

Pele had already given a warning about his threat from long distance last night with a good effort from well outside the penalty area in the opening minute, which Konyaspor goalkeeper Tokgoz pushed away. The hosts responded by taking the lead in the second minute, with Pele’s team-mate Safet Nadarevic turning the ball into his own net.

Eskisehirspor went close on several occasions before the break, but went into half time a goal down. However, Pele brought his side back on level terms five minutes into the second period with a well-taken finish from just outside the area.

Although the visitors continued to have the better of the chances, Eskisehirspor were undone by a sucker punch from Konyaspor on 78 minutes, when defender Adnan Gungor headed past Ivesa for what proved to be the winning goal at the Konya Ataturk Stadium.
