Out of favour Ze Castro remaining positive at Deportivo

Defender pleased with team's form

Ze Castro has suffered a surprising dip in fortunes at Deportivo La Coruna in recent weeks, but the Portuguese is refusing to become downhearted as the Galician side enjoy a good a start to the new Spanish season.

Having impressed for Depor last season while on-loan from Atletico Madrid, Ze Castro signed a permanent deal with the club during the summer and started the new campaign as a first choice in the heart of Miguel Angel Lotina’s defence.

However, the former Academica man was dropped after the 3-2 defeat to Espanyol last month and has watched Deportivo’s last three matches from the substitutes bench. In his absence, the team have won all three matches without conceding a goal, with Ze Castro’s replacement Diego Colotto earning the plaudits for his performances.

Asked for his feeling on the current situation, an upbeat Ze Castro told Depor Sport: “I am not surprised, nothing surprises me anymore. I’m fine and living my best moment. I’m feeling good, my team-mates are incredible and the environment at the changing room is great. I’m fine and calmed, and that’s the important thing. It’s a just a normal day for me and I don’t have anything else to say on that.

“The team‘s performances have been good, of course, twelve points in six matches is something incredible. People must be really happy, because during this period we have faced Real Madrid and other great clubs. Our targets? The results will dictate the goals. We, the players, know that things are working out and that’s above everything, it is what matters.”

Ze Castro’s men currently occupy fourth place in La Liga, with a tough home match with in-form Sevilla next on the agenda following the international break.
