“I can’t lose any more time” - Deportivo’s Ze Castro

Defender open on future

Deportivo La Coruna’s Portuguese international Ze Castro says he is preparing for a hugely important season in his career, and does not want a repeat of the last campaign.

After starting the 2009/10 term as first choice in the Deportivo defence upon signing for the club permanently from Atletico Madrid, Ze Castro quickly lost his place at the Riazor Stadium. The 27-year-old spent almost the entire campaign on the substitutes bench, making just ten league appearances.

Despite his struggles in Galicia, Ze Castro managed to earn a place in Portugal’s provisional World Cup party, only missing the trip to South Africa when Pepe made a full recovery from his knee injury. However, the former Academica man insists things must change for him at club level.

“I know that this is one of the most important seasons of my career, if not the most important, because I know that I cannot lose any more time,” he said.

“Could I move clubs? I have a contract with Deportivo and any club that wants me will have to reach an agreement with both myself and the club. I am a professional and I will do my best for my club wherever I am.

“We’ll see what happens in the end. I have the same desire to succeed as I did when I came to Deportivo.”
