Official: Maniche to join Cologne

Portuguese midfielder to play alongside Petit

Maniche20071002.jpgManiche has found a new home and it appears that the Portuguese international has settled on Bundesliga side FC Cologne. The former FC Porto player has yet to undergo the customary medical exams, but Maniche is poised to make the switch to Germany as announced on the club's web site.

The defensive midfielder was without a club since leaving Atletico Madrid and was reported to be pondering a move to Turkish club Ankaragucu. But now Cologne have made a swoop for the former Champions League and Uefa Cup winner.

Colgone's manager Michael Meier gave further credence to the report as the German tactician feels that nothing can now stand in the club's way of landing the combative ball-winner.

"We have reached an agreement with the player," said Meier. "Provided that our investigations do not result in any negative findings, we will sign Maniche to a contract."

Mancihe will find fellow countryman Petit at the club as the former Benfica player joined The Billy Goats last season.
