Raul Meireles makes Chelsea move

Four-year deal for midfielder

Portuguese international Raul Meireles has completed a surprise move to Chelsea, joining Andre Villas-Boas’ side from fellow Premier League club Liverpool.

Meireles, who signed for Liverpool last summer from FC Porto, was yet to start a league game for the Reds so far this season, and is believed to have submitted a transfer request on deadline day in order to force through a move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have reportedly paid in the region of €13.5m for Meireles, who has signed a four-year contract with the London club, where he will link up with compatriots Hilario, Jose Bosingwa and Paulo Ferreira.

I am a Liverpool fan. Naturally, according to a Liverpool fan, this is a bad news although I hope he will succeed and be happy in Chelsea. Meireles' happiness is very important for Portugal National Team.
Good buy

I agree with Raffy.. At 28 Meireles is a mere kid at Chelsea compared to some of the others... With long term injuries and an aging team Chelsea will do well to challenge for the title this year.... Meireles will be a star no doubt but you still have to think if he did it for the money because I can't see Chelsea or Liverpool winning anything this year. If anyone Liverpool look better.. I think he'll regret going there but I don't think heis bank manager will..

As a Chelsea supporter I'm delighted with this signing! Raul had a great season for Liverpool last year and their loss is our gain. I have no doubt he'll link up well with Lampard and Ramires and provide that creative spark we've been lacking in Essien's absence.
Good move

It's a a pretty good move for Raul Meireles, swapping Chelsea for Liverpool, clearly the Blues are in a better position to win tropgies and they are in the Champions League.
However I think the main reason that made him want to move was undoubtedly that he had lost his place in the first team line-up. Ok you can argue that Charlie Adam brings a lot to the team but you cannot possibly tell me that Lucas is better, and Kenny Dalglish made it clear that that was the midfield he was going with.
I can see Meireles taking over Chelsea's midfield reins instead of Mikel. No, he is not Modric, in fact they are quiet different players, but Chelsea already got Mata in for creativity. With Mata, Meireles and Lampard plus Ramires and Mikel, they have a pretty good midfield, although I'm sure AVB will be looking for Lampard's replacement sooner rather than later.

how was your ridiculous comment even allowed to be published? You should be happy with a 28 year old thats young for your team considering chelsea is full of old turds that cant even run anymore.

Meireles will be starting for your team and do you know why? Its simply because he and Essien are the only 2 good players in your pathetic midfield, also your captain is the reason why the word overated was made, most chelsea supporters dont even want him there anymore.

AVB needs to be firm and drop Lampard or else the team would be suffer... Lampard turning, controling the ball and movement is too slow...
Nice Meireles...

Good move for Meireles at least he will be respected. He was promised by Liverpool an improved contract if he did well in his first season before joining them but Liverpool turned their backs on their last season's best player and also the best CM in the Premier League. He deserves to be appreciated... Good luck Meireles!!

Nothing else to say. He didn't start first two games cause he was injured in pre-season. Then he gets injured in cup game, and people start talking about him not being Kennys favorit. His impact in game against Arsenal was praised highley by supporters and manager. How was he treted badly??

one thing is sure: he will get more money at chealse.....good luck and thank's for last year.
Not exactly Luka

He put in for transfer a few hours before the deadline. He left it a bit late. I agree that Meireles was one of Liverpool's best players last season but when you get knocked out of Europe by Braga and they didn't even qualify for Europe this year. There's no point begin one of the teams best players if the team does not reach its goals. Charlie Adam scored 13 goals last season to Meireles 5. Liverpool needed a complete change to challenge for a top 4 position. He wasn't willing to fight for his position and possibility he was thinking of the European Championships next year. Keeping his eye on the ball I would say. Not a bad move for him but look at the other two players that have recently gone to Chelsea form Liverpoool. Not a good track record. Besides Liverpool look a much better midfield unit with either Meireles or Gerrard.

Let's see how it goes.

Good move for Meireles

This isn't so surprising since "King" Kenney has built the squad around British players.
Meireles played extremely well for Liverpool and really carried them for a while. The problem is that Gerard will be coming back and it just wasn't going to work.

I was surprised that he did go to Chelsea. They went hard after Modric, and when that failed Meireles became the option. As for playing time, we'll see.
It will be interesting how AVB will set this squad up. I think that Meireles will slot in nicely since Essien is out for the year. In my opinion Lamps is also well passed it, but it will be tricky to sit him. He will be a problem in the backroom.
Although they won last weekend, they were far from convincing.
Great Move

This is a fantastic move for Raul Meireles! He has always been a class act player! One of the most consistent and dependable players in the word as well! He has done well wherever he's been and I think he will be great in Chelsea. He has done the best thing for him! He deserves playing time and to be properly valued and appreciated. At Liverpool they did not do that! Liverpool only have themselves to blame for that! They never gave him the appreciation he deserved and all throughout the summer they were considering selling him to make room for Henderson and Adams. Bullcrap! Meireles was the second best center mid in LIverpool after Gerrard. He has done the best thing for him by moving to Chelsea. There he will bring that different technical quality and vision to Chelsea's center mid and also Villas-Boas will know him and how to get the best out of him! I think this is a win-win for both Meireles and Chelsea!
good for Raul

Liverpool didn't deserve him. I think he'll do well on a quality team like Chelsea.
Good job Meireles

Im very happy about this he will slot very well into Chelseas midefield.

Im also very pleased that after the way Liverpol have treated him he has decided to leave them behind and go to another rival club. Meireles was Liverpools best player throughout the whole year last year and became a fan favourite and the club didnt even want to renew his contract then dropped him to the bench.

Now he will start at Chelsea with respect, and alot of playing time AVB will make sure of that and im also sure he will be making more money to.

I must say im surprised AVB went for Meireles i must say i thought i would wake up to see BREAKING NEWS: Joao Moutinho has been sold to Chelsea!
It didnt happen though thank god i just had a feeling it would.
