Cluj skipper Cadu excited by Jorge Costa speculation

“Costa is an idol for all Portuguese”

CFR Cluj captain Ricardo Cadu has given his backing to suggestions that former Academica boss Jorge Costa is being lined up to take charge of the Romanian club.

Although there has been no official confirmation, it has been widely reported in Romania that Costa will succeed Alin Minteuan as Cluj boss for next season. The 39-year-old has been out of work since leaving Academica in December following heavy defeats to Maritimo and Braga in the Liga Zon Sagres.

Speaking to Romanian publication ProSport, veteran defender Cadu endorsed the possible appointment. “Jorge Costa is an idol for all Portuguese. He was a tremendous player, who won everything with Porto. It will be an honour to play for him,” said the former Boavista man, before adding: “he was not an idol of mine as a child, though, as I supported Benfica.”

Cluj, who are set to finish this season in a disappointing 8th place, have gone through seven coaches since winning the Romanian title just three years ago. Among the casualties was Portuguese boss Antonio Conceicao, who spent six months at the helm before leaving in November 2009.
