I would not say no to Cluj - Pacheco

Ex-Boavista boss keen on job

Portuguese coach Jaime Pacheco says he would be interested in taking the reigns at Romanian champions CFR Cluj, after he was linked with the vacant managerial position at the club.

Cluj recently sacked coach Sorin Cartu after less than three months in the job, having fired previous boss Andrea Mandorlini one month into the campaign despite the Italian having won the double last term. The next appointment will be Cluj’s seventh since they won their first Romanian championship in 2008.

Pacheco has been unemployed since April when he left Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabab following a poor run of results. The 52-year-old has been suggested as a possible candidate for the Cluj job, and Pacheco admits it is an attractive prospect, although there has yet to be a firm offer made to the former Boavista coach.

“Cluj is a strong possibility and has been before, but at this moment there is nothing concrete,” Pacheco said. “I don’t deny that there has been contact, but nothing more than that. I have been contacted by the Romanian press and all I can say is that there is nothing concrete.

“Cluj is a very attractive club. They are always in the top places in the league and take part in European competition. I already know some of the players who are there, so if the offer came I would not say no.”

Pacheco would be the second Portuguese coach to try his luck with the Transylvania outfit, with Antonio ‘Toni’ Conceicao having left the club six months into a two-year contract last November.
