Video: Simao on form as Atletico down Getafe

Atletico Madrid 2-0 Getafe

Simao Sabrosa’s strong form during the opening months of the season shows no sign of letting up, after the former Portugal winger scored his fourth goal of the season as Atletico Madrid beat city rivals Getafe.

The 31-year-old is in the final year of his contract at the Vicente Calderon, and has been one of Quique Sanchez Flores’ side’s most impressive performers so far. Simao is now Atletico’s leading goalscorer, with three goals in La Liga and an additional strike in the team’s Europa league campaign.

Simao’s goal against Getafe was typical of the former Benfica captain, who curled home a free-kick seven minutes before half time to give Atletico the lead. Diego Costa made the game safe for the hosts on 73 minutes when he rounded off a nice move with a calm finish from close-range.

Tiago Mendes also started the game and played the full ninety minutes for Atletico, who temporarily moved up into fifth place in the table with 13 points from their seven matches played in La Liga so far.

very good kick but it was lucky the way the ball deflected
Simao is Classy But NT Doesn't Need Him

A nice player but at best in his prime a NT reserve. Let's not let performance in Spain a very offensive and light marking league fool you. Simao did very little against tight marking and high caliber competition for the NT. His best moments were the cross to Helder P in Euro 2004 and his goal in a friendly against Brazil. Other than that against good competition you have to dig really deep to find a brilliant moment against good teams. If you find one, please let me know.

I didn't compare Simao to Figo. Idiot. Its clear that I mean they have a similar playing style. Not to mention, Simao is in the same class level as Figo because he acts like a leader and is well respected.

and I have to agree with Lusostriker on the post he made on the Portugal article. Although hes not on point, he has the same concept. I too believe theres a couple of people posting with various different names.

For one, I am not Orlandomac. Although I never liked Queiroz, when have you seen me use those mocking names against him? As I recall, Orlandomac trash talked Quaresma after the 4-4 draw with Cyprus. I was the one praising him. So do some research before making these ludicrous accusations.

I've got a good feeling that your mannyscp because you got the same intention of coming here and leaving these stupid comments. Why dont you reflect on the article a bit?.. then you wont look as stupid as you are.

lol orlandogino every comment you make is more absurd.....comparing simao to figo? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND? Nani is succeeding at one of the biggest clubs in europe while simao flopped at barca when he was nanis age....take of the red tinted glasses

You must admit. I havent seen Simao play this well in quite a long time. He's been consistant. He relieved himself from the nt and focusing on one team has made him a better player.

I still say if we need someone with that technical ability, Simao is the man. He reminds me of Figo. Simple dribbles, less flashy and quite honestly more productive at times.

There is no doubt that he would fit on any national team. The only thing that Nani is better for is pace. If Simao was still 26, he would be starting ahead of Nani.
Come back

Should still play more games for Portugal not starting, and not even all games but if we have injuries he should be convinced to come back.
