Ricardo Fernandes leaves Anorthosis Famagusta

Club announce Portuguese's departure

Former Sporting and Porto midfielder Ricardo Fernandes has rescinded his contract with Anorthosis Famagusta, despite only arriving at the Cypriot club over the summer.

According to the club’s official website, Fernandes, 31, has agreed by mutual consent to end his three-year contract with Anorthosis with over two-and-a-half years left on the deal. No official reasons were disclosed for the parties coming to the decision.

The news brings about a surprising end to Fernandes’ spell with Anorthosis, having returned to Cyprus with a superb reputation stemming from a highly successful three-year spell with APOEL earlier in his career. Fernandes had spent last season in Ukraine with Metalurh Donetsk.
