"We must be on the edge in all aspects" - Costa

Academica looking to grab second-place

jorge-costa-20090518.jpgTwo of the pleasant surprises of the season thus far have been Academica and Vitoria Guimaraes. It will be a battle between two of the top four teams in the standings this Satruday. Jorge Costa knows it will not be easy for his side to hold onto their table position all season, let alone advance, but that will not stop him from trying.

The Estudantes are currently in fourth place with eight points, only three back of rivals Guimaraes. Costa is proud of his team's achievements, but chose to be philosophical when it came to the reality of challening for a better table placing.

"Two of the top four teams will be playing against one another and we're at a very early stage of the season," said Costa. "Clearly it is motivating to know that we could end up in second place after the match is done, but that doesn't only depend on our victory."

"It is good to look at our placing and have the opportunity to be even higher in the table. But what is more important is for the team to continue to grow and win as many points as possible at this stage."

"Life is full of opportunities and we have this one in our hands, which we would like to take advanatge of. At the risk of sounding redundant, second place does not make part of our objectives, but if we have the opportunity to fight for it, we will do so with dedication and desire."

As for their upcoming opponents, Costa had nothing but praise for the minho club and feels that they are wholly deserving of where they are, in terms of their table classification.

"Vitoria Guimaraes have had some good matches, they have solutions offensively and are full of quality. They are having an excellent beginning to the season. They are confident and are looking to play good football - just like we are."

"We must be on the edge in all aspects. If we are playing at our maximum, we could have something to say in terms of the result. I hope for a great spectacle."
